Idea
CINQUE is the story of a family business that changed its scale. The client's father made mass-market furniture; the son moved production to complex, exclusive furniture of unusual shapes. The film had to be about the concept behind the furniture rather than the furniture itself: continuity, and craft taken to the level of one-off pieces.
Production
Before the shoot we pitched our vision and built the director's treatment as a website, so the client could judge the idea before the first shoot day. Once it was approved, we met, went through the details and scheduled the shoot.
The shoot took two full days. After the first day we rebuilt the plan and went out separately for a pickup shoot in a field with a motorcycle.
A compact crew: director, cinematographer and producer in one person, plus a gaffer on some scenes. The lead role was played by the owner himself, with his real workers beside him on screen: a film about the people of the workshop, shot with the people of the workshop.
